AFTER ALL - I’M A DOCTOR
Dear all,
I’ve been writing last two months, trying to understand what is life? The life that the lord has given us, how we are cherished, nurtured by all around us, how we are exposed to the world around us, how a little baby who is simple, pure, totally vulnerable, unexposed to the big bad world
physically, psychologically, socially, economically, etc.. etc.. suddenly succumbs to the adversaries around. When a person, be it of any age, or stage, suffers , my heart undergoes a summer sault. The scientific, analysing mind within starts to reason why?
Why did he fall sick?
What went wrong and how?
What was the causative agent?
I’ve been a very inquisitive one, always running here and there, from one person to another looking for answers from whom so ever can satisfy me. Having understood what is wrong, I then try to look for solutions. Solutions not only as a doctor in terms of advising medication and all that goes along with it; but also what all we can do to avoid occurrence of the so called predicament. So the research mode makes me look into causative agents, the doctor in me makes me examine the patient, the human in me makes me relate to the individual, and then I try and interact with the patient, his/ her family so that we not only treat the patient , but also try to see n avoid its recurrence and like to do regular follow ups to see the progress and adherence of patient to the advice given. In a nut shell I can say:
I am an Allopathic Doctor, who believes more in prevention of the causes that herald the disease, and believe in reaching out to the psyche of the patient and extending reassurance. So now if you have read my article in my fifth blog dated 21st of JUNE, I titled the article as ROTI KAPDA AUR MAKAAN, here in , I touched upon the essentials that help, assist, aid or abet; If the afore said essentials are used, consumed, judiciously, they help the individual, but can cause tandem, havoc and devastating conditions if we are not judicious about their selection, their quality/ quantity.
I also touched upon WATER AND AIR as the two additional major factors that are gaining more and more importance/momentum in today's world.
RKM
Who is a preventive doctor?
One who looks for the cause and tries to help before a condition/illness develops; the goal being to prevent health issues before we need to treat them.
Prevention Doctor: Being a preventive doctor as i like to call myself, i would like to detail about all these parameters in length, and also highlight all the complications that can compromise our body and indirectly affect us psychologically as well.
My next few episodes would thus reverberate on various aspects of health. Besides this ,if you go back n reread the article...
RKM (roti/kapda/ makaan), you will find that i have likened our body as a main frame computer. Just like a Main frame computer has a soft copy and a hard copy, we too have our body: hard copy, and the (Hard copy/ soft copy )
Mind, the thought process, how we think are our soft copy. If the hard copy is not in sync with the soft copy, you can well imagine mental instabilities would ensue, as is rampant these days!!! So proper full fledged approach with body and mind should be taken into consideration and that cannot be done by super specialists. I feel the time has now come to start going back to the old adage system of family doctors. Family doctors are essentially the first interface between the patient and his condition and how he assesses, the situation holistically and assuages the condition .
Suffice to say: We have a Hard copy Our body We have a Soft copy. Our mind.
Lets try and understand all the ramifications in all situations Its going to be a long and arduous process, its going to be nerve wracking, confusing and mind boggling at times.
I'm going to try, and unravel as much as my mind can clearly assuage the connection. Please give me support. Criticize, confront , advise, suggest Lets try and unravel some mysteries of the body & the mind!!
Lets do it together.
Chalo kuch likhaein: Pain, dysfunction, distress ya social problem ho Injury ho, disability ho, disorder ho; Infection ,
Takleef toh hoti hai.... Koi deficiency disease ho, hereditary disease ho; genetic/non genetic he bimarii ho! communicable ho ya non communicable he sahi….
Deadliest of diseases ..CORONARY artery disease ho…(CAD) Beemari jo bhi ho, lambi khinch jaye to they not only affect the person physically, so also mentally;
Pathology samjhni padti hai, aur etiology tak research karni chahiye.
Ek anokha rishta: People with chronic mental illness are at a higher risk of experiencing a wide range of physical conditions, and vice versa- people with physical health conditions experience depression and anxiety at twice the rate of the general population.
Be it scary diseases like Cancer, Heart disease and or Diabetes : such patients are not only chronically physically aggrieved, they are also mentally wrought n fraught with emotional turmoil. Such a patient needs to be handled very deftly, not only by the first responders : relatives, and then by the physicians. Here hurry worry curry is an old adage quote: we need to understand this quote, thus must handle things with a humane touch.
Therefore, the first outside help should be a doctor known to the family. He should know the family, know some parts of the medical history and be relatable!
In my preceding Blog articles I have delved upon the human being as a social interactive creature.
Now,in the succeeding few articles i want to talk about health & sickness,
health & curative aspects
health and preventive aspects
health both physical & mental issues,
how they are at times intermingled in a human body/ and also what the equation of health & wellness means to us all.
Finally, having embarked on a health & wellness tour, lets traverse various segments of our hard copy: our body, move into & relate with the compartments of the mind and psyche, the soft copy, and cut across various sectors : social, environmental, agricultural, geographical. environmental, at all.
Friends, we are on a long long journey while i traverse inter & intra sectoral across boundaries across the geographical and other paradigms, man made machines, man made disasters, man made complexities of life & living, please bear with me & support me and guide me on this tour.
See you soon…
Wonderful! Loved the "ek anokha rishta" segment. Really dava ke saath koi marham lagane waala chaahiye. Hamari soft copy ke liye. Waiting for more to read .
